The introduction of The Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations 1997 and the subsequent 1999 amendment, serve to fill a gap in the statutory coverage of the general fire safety legislation, and has dramatically changed the onus of responsibility for ensuring compliance with fire safety issues from the Fire Authorities to property owners and their advisors. The format has changed completely and now brings fire safety legislation into line with the risk assessment procedures for general health and safety legislation.
