Retailers have an obligation to supply safe and legal products to their consumers, and therefore must take all reasonable precautions to prevent failure within the development, manufacture, distribution, advertising and sale of products.
|
|
For many years, retailers have addressed this obligation by undertaking audits of their suppliers, verifying competence and performance against their individual requirements.
The BRC Global Standard: Consumer Products has been introduced to enable third party certification of suppliers, and therefore assist retailers in fulfilment of their obligations. This also avoids the need for suppliers having to be subject to verification by potentially many different retailers.

The standard has been developed, in partnership with major retailers, to promote product safety, legality, and quality. The standard requires:
- The adoption of a hazard analysis and establishment of appropriate controls;
- A documented and effective quality management system;
The effective control of factory environment standards, product, process and personal.
IMS Reliance is able to offer assessment and certification across a range of products to this standard, using qualified and experienced assessors. Certification to this standard enables the suppliers to reach a potentially wider range of retailers with their products, and also demonstrates that the supplier has the competence and appropriate systems in place to provide quality and safe products.
